Mayor Kris Bolam’s statement: Storm damage in Frankston City

Fallen Tree

Frankston City has been hard hit by the wild weather that is lashing Victoria.

I urge all residents to stay safe and off the roads, particularly as our municipality has been one of the worst affected areas with a significant number of residences currently experiencing power outages. It is anticipated that winds will ease by midday today.

Council staff are working extremely hard to make sure the Frankston City community is as supported as possible. We are working with the State Emergency Service to clear fallen branches and clear roads as soon as possible in the challenging conditions, but please expect some delay.

Reports of damage to Council buildings, facilities and assets including sports grounds can be made to Council customer service centres (1300 322 322). Please note our customer service centres are receiving high level of calls and I urge residents to please be patient as we attend to each person.

We will continue to provide updates throughout the day, as the situation unfolds, on the Frankston City Council Facebook page.

Please note due to the extreme weather:

  • To allow Council and SES crews to conduct clean-up operations safely in Frankston City, kerbside bin collections have been delayed until tomorrow. Residents can please assist by bringing bins in today and putting them back out (later this evening) for collection tomorrow. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
  • Due to severe weather and power outages, Frankston Regional Recycling and Recovery Centre will remain closed today and reopen at 8am tomorrow morning.
  • All Frankston City Libraries are closed due to power outages.
  • Maternal and Child Health Centres are only seeing under babies under eight weeks old today due to the wild weather and loss of power at some Centres.

Those who require assistance can contact:

  • Phone 132 500 for SES emergency assistance.
  • 000 for life threatening emergency.
  • Your electricity provider regarding power outage.

I encourage residents to stay resilient. Frankston City residents have been through incredibly difficult times since early last year due to the pandemic and this is another surmountable challenge.
