Mayor proud to advocate for and represent Frankston City Council

Mayor Kris Bolam is proudly advocating for and representing Frankston City Council across a range of key organisations.
The Mayor and 11 other regional Councillors were recently elected to the Board of the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV).
“I’m proud to represent Frankston City on the Board of the MAV, which is the peak body for Victoria’s 79 Councils. The MAV plays a vital role advocating Local Government interests, promoting the role of Local Government and building the capacity of Councils and I look forward to working with fellow Board members to achieve these important aims,” the Mayor said.
The Mayor will represent the metropolitan southern region (Casey, Greater Dandenong, Monash and Frankston) in his role on the MAV Board.
Mayor Bolam has also been appointed to the 2021 Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel (LGMAP), which includes 15 Mayors from across Victoria.
The panel advises the Victorian Local Government Minister on a range of legislative, regulatory, strategic and policy decisions which impact the Local Government sector.
Mayor Bolam said: “It’s important the Minister hears from the coalface insofar how Local Government is tracking, particularly given the new Local Government Act changes and the recovery challenges that communities are encountering in this period of global pandemic.
“Local Government Mayors are uniquely placed to provide a different perspective and I am thrilled to represent Frankston City on the Minister’s panel.
“Frankston City has so much to offer. We have a large foreshore, pockets of flora and fauna, shopping centres, industrial land and a disparate socio-economic mix.
“This makes the municipality an important microcosm and I look forward to providing the Minister fearless and frank advice on Frankston City’s perspective in the wider state context,” Mayor Bolam said.
He has also been appointed to the MAV Audit and Risk Committee (alternate Board member).
Mayor Bolam is passionate about the role of Local Government with a long history of hands on involvement. In 2011 at the age of 24 years, he was one of the youngest Councillors ever to have been appointed to the position of Mayor in Victoria, which is something he feels extremely proud of.
Mayor Bolam was first elected to Frankston City Council in 2008 and served until 2012 in the North-West Ward.
Mayor Bolam is the youngest Mayor (2010 - 2011) and Deputy Mayor (2011 - 2012) in the municipal history of Frankston City. He was also the youngest Justice of the Peace in Victorian history, following his appointment in 2008.
In 2016 Mayor Bolam was again elected to Frankston City Council, and was the only former Councillor to be re-elected in 2020. He was re-elected Mayor by fellow Frankston City Councillors last November.
