New Frankston Arts Centre mural celebrates connection to local arts

Mornington Peninsula dancer Olivia Gard is featured alongside entertainment icons Archie Roach and Rhonda Burchmore in a new mural at Frankston Arts Centre.

Olivia, 16, first performed at Frankston Arts Centre at the age of three years and dropped in recently and view the large mural above the Box Office for the first time.

“It’s a real honour to appear next to these amazing people,” Olivia said.

Olivia’s image included in the mural was taken at Spark Dance Company’s production of Ariadne.

Council Manager Arts and Culture, Andrew Moon, said the new mural captured Frankston Arts Centre’s strong bond to the arts in the greater Frankston region.

“The new mural in the Frankston Arts Centre foyer celebrates big names in the arts industry such as Archie Roach and Rhonda Burchmore, but just as importantly promotes our connection to the local arts industry and its abundant talent.

“The Arts Centre plays an important role in being a performance home to many local dance and theatre companies and schools,” Mr Moon said.

North-East Ward Cr Suzette Tayler added: “The beautiful picture of Olivia Gard taken at a Spark Dance Company production is a great example of a young performer whose talents have been showcased on our stage.

“We hope to be the springboard for many young people as they aspire to careers in the arts,” Cr Tayler said.
