New mural at Seaford pays tribute to our natural environment

A stunning new mural at Seaford pays tribute to Frankston City’s wonderful and captivating natural environment.

The mural on the Seaford Library and Community Centre has been developed to enhance the experience of people looking to ‘Do it Outdoors’ and expand outdoor dining into reserves, including the Broughton St Reserve, as Frankston City continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

More outdoor entertainment and music is scheduled later this year as part of Frankston City Council’s ‘Do It Outdoors’ campaign.

Council commissioned the mural as part of the ‘Do it Outdoors’ campaign to promote outdoor dining and support businesses impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Artist Melanie Caple’s mural features coastal banksias, tea tree and a swamp gum – based on what she observed at nearby Kananook Creek.

Using the library’s entrance sign, front and side walls as its canvas, the mural opens up in clean whites and greys, with highlights of orange, yellow and pink.

Ms Caple said: “I featured botanicals that are indigenous to the Kananook Creek area. I was particularly excited about painting the tea-tree – those flowers are so beautiful!”

North West Ward Cr Sue Baker said the mural is a great example of the projects created through Council’s Do it Outdoors campaign that encourages residents to ‘Nibble, Sip, Play, Stomp and Chill’ in neighbourhood precincts in support of small business recovery.

“The mural will be a boost for local businesses and communities, but it is also a reminder that beyond our fantastic waterfront district, we also have wetlands, peaceful walking trails and an abundance of native flora and fauna,” Cr Baker said.

Murals and street artworks are a major part of Frankston City’s burgeoning arts scene with pieces by local and international artists bringing the city’s buildings and laneways to life.
