New playground provides huge boost to John Monash Reserve at Skye

Frankston City’s newest playground at the John Monash Reserve at Skye is providing fun and healthy activity for the young and the young at heart.

The new playground includes refurbishment of the existing timber play unit, new swings, spinner and nature play, shade sails, park fencing, tree planting and garden bed improvements and a new picnic area with barbecue and shelter.

North East Ward Cr Suzette Tayler said the playground upgrade was thanks to a $300,000 investment from Council.

Cr Tayler said: “Green open spaces and outdoor recreation hubs are vitally important to our community for overall wellbeing. This has been reinforced during the recent lockdowns.”

Cr Tayler added that Council is dedicated to developing our outdoor leisure spaces for locals to enjoy for years to come.

The John Monash Reserve upgrade, funded in Council’s 2020 – 2021 Budget, complements other park and playground revitalisations planned for 2021 – 2022, at a total investment of more than $2 million. Keep an eye out for upgrades at Brolga Reserve, Carrum Downs; Lady Emily Reserve, Skye; Orwil Street Reserve, Frankston; Witternberg Reserve, Frankston; Yarralumla Reserve, Langwarrin; and Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve.

Council also recently completed a $250,000 new playground in Fleetwood Crescent, Frankston South – close to the stunning Sweetwater Creek – which includes a slide, swings, trampoline, nature play and a climbing unit.

Other major works include an upgraded dog off-leash area at Sandfield Reserve, Carrum Downs and a revitalised play space at Karingal PLACE Neighbourhood Centre.

Cr Tayler said Council is taking a ‘whole of park’ approach to our park and playground upgrades, adding: “Once we see a playground or other amenity needs attention, we immediately assess the surrounding area to ensure we are providing the best possible facilities for our community.”
