New public toilets open near Frankston Train Station

Rail users and those visiting central Frankston are now able to access new public toilets after construction was recently completed.

The toilets near Frankston Train Station feature four unisex cubicles, including an accessible toilet, an ambulant toilet and a toilet for use by bus drivers.

While highly visible on the corner of Young Street and Station Street, the amenity is softened in the urban landscape with a roof design that complements that of the station and distinctive paving that ties in seamlessly with the surrounding area.

The works were developed with the Department of Transport and have been jointly funded by Frankston City Council and the State Government’s stimulus program.

South Ward Cr Brad Hill noted that the new public toilet would be one that commuters, visitors and locals could use with confidence and comfort.

Cr Hill said: ‘Toilets are not necessarily something people rate in their reviews of an area – as opposed to its cafes and tourist sites – but they are definitely an amenity that can spoil or improve an experience.

“This new amenity for Frankston will improve the working day of our bus drivers, and help people to stay longer in our central retail district, which will provide broader benefits for the whole community.”

The State Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke MP, said: “I’m pleased to see the completion of the Young street toilets. They will not only be functional and convenient for public transport users, they also fit well within the landscape of the thriving redeveloped area.”
