Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre ‘pumped’ to be back in action

Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC) – Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula’s premier aquatic and fitness Centre – is pumped to be back in action post lockdown.
Peninsula Leisure CEO Kath Thom said PARC staff are excitedly looking forward to welcoming back more members and visitors in accordance with current State Government restrictions and COVID safe practices.
Ms Thom said: “PARC closed on 28 May in-line with the circuit breaker lockdown, and this was subsequently extended for two weeks. In line with restrictions, PARC was limited to 50 people allowed in the entire building for a further week, and we had to move to a pay as you go booking system to manage numbers.
“From 25 June, we have resumed memberships and all services, as capacity has moved from 50 for the entire building to 300 people per indoor space. We know members and visitors can’t wait to return and we’re looking forward to seeing more people using our state-of-the-art facilities and the many programs on offer to help people achieve their fitness goals,” Ms Thom said.
Ms Thom stressed the safety and wellbeing of all members, visitors and staff is always paramount, adding: “We are still required to adhere to the one person per 4 metres squared density limit, so some smaller rooms will need to accommodate fewer people.”
PARC group exercise instructor Louise Sidey said she is rapt to welcome clients back to PARC and help them develop a love of exercise and gain mental health and physical benefits as well as increased body confidence.
Ms Sidey said: “It’s fantastic to see people who have never exercised develop a passion for fitness and become someone who is coming week in, week out.”
In line with the easing of restrictions, PARC members and visitors are advised, from 25 June:
- No more pre-bookings for gym and swim sessions, so come on in any time.
- Recreational swimming is back in time for school holidays, along with the Aquatic Playground and waterslides.
- Sauna and steam are open, and showers are back.
- Visitors can move between areas of the facility to work out and enjoy.
- Group Exercise Timetable is back!
- Memberships are reactivated – so come as often as you want with your unlimited access.
- Cafe is back for your delicious morning coffee and some food.
- Swimming lessons resume on Saturday, 26 June.
- Creche is back from Monday, 28 June.
Ms Thom added: “With increased capacity, services and programs, we reactivated all memberships from Friday 25 June, after being placed on hold for the 4-week closure and restricted access period.”
Ms Thom praised the tireless work and passion of the Peninsula Leisure team throughout the closure, adding: “We are so looking forward to moving to more normalised operations so we can welcome more of our incredible team back. I am so proud of the work, compassion and energy I have seen from the PARC Team and I know they are just as excited as I am to see our members and guests back in Centre.”
“We are so excited to welcome more members and visitors back to the Centre. We're so grateful for the amazing and warm support we have received from our PARC community through this lockdown and closure period and the team can’t wait to welcome you back,” Ms Thom said.
