Statement from the Mayor – Circuit Breaker Lockdown

I would like to take a brief moment to touch on the circuit breaker stage four lockdown we are all currently experiencing.

While it’s expected this short five day event will conclude at 11.59pm tomorrow (Wednesday 17), my fellow Councillors and I are very much aware that it still has an impact on the mental and physical wellbeing of some residents – particularly those who live alone or are socially isolated.

I have spoken to our State Member of Parliament this afternoon, Mr Paul Edbrooke, who was most considerate in giving me an update of the state-wide situation; and he assures me that everything is being done that can be done to get this latest strain under control and the small number of new infections is a good indicator that this circuit breaker lockdown is working.

I know it’s not easy going in and out of restrictions — and sometimes feeling like you don’t know what the days ahead will bring – but one thing you can be sure of is that your Council is here for you.  

Our services, while occasionally needing to be altered – will not stop. 

Our support and assistance, whether it’s in-home care, meals on wheels, Maternal and Child Health or customer service – will not stop.

And our efforts to continue identifying new ways that we can help all of our communities to recover – will not stop.

I would encourage anyone needing support, or a service referral to contact our Community Recovery Call Centre by phoning 1300 322 322 during business hours.

The call centre is designed to facilitate connection with service agencies along with Council services, including but not limited to meals assistance, housing and family violence supports, and financial hardship services, parenting and aged services information.

We also have our business concierge on hand to support local businesses connect with Council and government supports available.

As we move forward into 2021 – please look after yourself and one another.
