Street Art Walking Tours by the Seaside

Frankston City’s vibrant street art scene just keeps getting better.

North-East Ward Cr Suzette Tayler said Frankston’s CBD has become a canvas for some of the world’s best street artists thanks to the annual Big Picture Fest, which attracts internationally renowned artists who create captivating and mesmerising images.

“The Big Picture Fest was initially held in 2018, with the artworks transforming drab walls in high profile locations and hidden laneways into an epic spectacle of storytelling, colour and vibrancy.

“Showcasing Frankston’s evolving arts and culture edge, Frankston City is now home to over 30 larger than life street art pieces and murals created by some of the world’s best street artists. Dotted throughout the city’s streets and laneways, these artworks are all just waiting to be discovered,” Cr Tayler said.

Cr Tayler added that each year the Big Picture Fest contributes about seven to nine new pieces with some replacing past artworks to keep the experience fresh.

“The best way to discover these amazing artworks is on a guided Street Art Walking Tour. Our fun and knowledgeable guides will take you on an immersive, deep dive experience to uncover iconic images that capture Frankston’s past, celebrate urban culture, and learn about the creators and the stories behind their inspired works.

“Even if you’re local, I’m certain you will find or learn something new and best of all, you’ll have the chance to capture the perfect ‘instagrammable’ photo in front of your favourite piece and that guarantees to have your friends asking in awe ‘where did you find that’?” Cr Tayler said.

Council Coordinator for Tourism, Amy Parsons, added that Frankston’s Street Art Walking Tours are a great way for people to discover the creative energy within Frankston City.

“Our street art helps create a sense of place, an identity for Frankston that builds on the reputation that our city is evolving. You’ll be fascinated by the inspiration behind these artworks, created by some of the world’s best street artists.

“Our local guides share these stories. It’s a vibrant urban art experience that you don’t have to travel to Melbourne for,” Ms Parsons said.

Ms Parsons added: “After a tour, soak up the rays and fresh air with some alfresco dining or take a wander along the stunning Frankston Foreshore boardwalk.”
