Stunning images capture indigenous peoples from Argentina

A captivating photographic glimpse of indigenous Argentinian peoples is now on display at Frankston Arts Centre.

Osvaldo Civetta’s exhibition titled ‘Roots, Raices’ captures the indigenous peoples in their native homes sharing with the world the roots of their culture, tradition and land that continues to persevere in the modern world.

“The exhibition was inspired through an invitation by friend and artist, Jaime Torres, Argentine musician, world-renowned interpreter of charango, to visit his cultural centre in his native province of Jujuy, Argentina – rich in heritage and astonishing scenery,” Osvaldo said.

“The theme of the exhibition is a look at the everyday lives in contrast with the modern world of the native people of Jujuy and Salta, Argentina.”

Osvaldo’s photography is inspired by the freedom of artistic expression, people, architecture imbued with history, natural landscapes and how natural/artificial lighting can define tone and expression. 

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Osvaldo migrated to Melbourne, Australia at the age of 15 years. Having a keen interest for the visual arts, he went on to study art, photography, television and film.

He has been involved in the television and entertainment industry since 1984, using his wealth of knowledge and industry experience to capture unique photography.

See the exhibition at Frankston Arts Centre’s Atrium Gallery until April 16. Osvaldo’s postcard photographs are on sale from $12 and large photographic prints from $90 to $300. Artwork sales via the Frankston Arts Centre Box Office.
