It’s time to show the love and #Vote1Frankston in the Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards!
Frankston has the honour of being recognised – along with 21 other towns – as a finalist in the awards, which are hosted by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council.
Frankston City Council Mayor Kris Bolam said: “The winner is selected via a public vote – we are inviting our community, valued visitors, those who work here and everyone who loves Frankston, to get behind us and vote for Frankston to become the 2021 Victorian Top Tourism Town.
“The tide is turning on Frankston as a destination. The experience people have when they visit us doesn’t reflect some people’s preconceived ideas about who we are.
“More and more people are realising is that Frankston is becoming its own destination drawcard. The City has come a long way in the last 10 years. We’re seeing this in the crafters and innovators that are coming to Frankston City and starting new businesses here.
“There is a new energy in the City and it’s not only attracting more businesses, but more families are now calling Frankston home. It’s not only a great place to visit, but to live as well,” Mayor Bolam said.
North East Ward Cr Suzette Tayler said Council is committed to developing Frankston as a significant visitor destination within the Victorian tourism landscape.
“There’s no other place quite like Frankston, which features an enviable and beautiful blend of city, bush and bay. As a destination we work really hard to exceed visitors’ expectations and to deliver the unexpected,” Cr Tayler said.
Council Coordinator for Tourism, Amy Parsons, added that revitalisation of the Frankston City centre, particularly the City’s evolving street art and outdoor dining bringing life back to the city streets and activating local businesses, has provided a major boost.
Ms Parsons said Frankston’s top tourist sights and destinations include:
Street Art
- Street art scene is abundant and growing – adding colour and vibrancy to the city streets.
- A Street Art walking tour takes people through the streets and laneways of the City’s growing street art gallery.
- Locals guide participants to almost 30 murals each creating an epic display of colour, creativity and movement.
Arts and culture underpins all of Frankston’s experiences. Along the coastline, in the natural reserves and the city, art, sculptures, and historically significant points of interest and dotted and intertwined to enhance the experience.
An urban city surrounded by nature, underpinned by art and culture:
- 10km of pristine coastline, layered with sculptures and indigenous fauna.
- McClelland Gallery – one of Australia’s largest outdoor sculpture parks.
- Nature reserves of Frankston Conservation Reserve, Sweetwater Creek and Olivers Hill for breathtaking views across the bay and beyond.
Crafters and Creators
- The Beer and Spirts trail featuring brewers that push the boundaries creating new flavours and a boutique family distillery creating gins produced from the nearby wine regions of the Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley.
