Who would you nominate for Frankston City’s Citizen of the Year?

Nominations can now be made to identify Frankston City’s Citizen of the Year in what is expected to be one of tightest fields of worthy candidates yet.
The annual event hosted by Frankston City Council will recognise a Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year, with a presentation on Australia Day 2022.
Deputy Mayor Nathan Conroy noted that there had been remarkable efforts made by individuals and organisations to alleviate strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past year.
Council expects to see a high volume of candidates and to find them hard to separate due to the admirable number of Frankston City residents who have stepped up to strengthen the community in dealing with the challenges associated with COVID-19.
Cr Conroy said: “We would ask people to think about those they can’t thank enough for what they have done during these difficult times and then nominate those people.
“It might be the school teacher who went to extraordinary lengths to keep students engaged in a disrupted year, an aged-care worker who consistently alleviated feelings of isolation, an advocate who helped tenants keep a roof over their heads, or perhaps a sporting coach who kept players connected and active during the longest of off-seasons.”
Cr Conroy said individual candidates might also be found among hard-working welfare agencies, health services and first-responder workforces and he encouraged those nominating to also consider events that benefitted the community in their special category.
“The award is an expression of Frankston City’s gratitude for remarkable contributions, but it also highlights for others what can be achieved when someone with enthusiasm, perseverance and drive makes a personal commitment to a cause,” he said.
