Work on new public toilets to start this month

Construction work on new public toilets in central Frankston will start this month.
The toilets near Frankston Train Station will feature four unisex cubicles including an accessible toilet, two ambulant toilets and a toilet for use by bus drivers.
Jointly funded by Frankston City Council and the State Government’s stimulus program, the toilets will be situated at the corner of Young St and Station St (on the station side of Young St). The works have been developed with the Department of Transport and delivery will commence this week and is expected to be completed mid-August.
Mayor Kris Bolam said: “A new public toilet will increase amenity in the train station precinct. It is required at Young St outside Frankston Train Station to replace the previous facility and service both the general public and bus drivers.
“As a result of the construction site being fenced off the pedestrian footpath around the construction site will be reduced. Some pedestrian detours will occur during certain stages of the works,” Mayor Bolam said.
The State Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke MP, said: “The new Young St toilets will complement the revitalised streetscape and train station precinct so that commuters, shoppers and businesses have a comfortable, safe and convenient experience.”
The previous public toilet was demolished during the upgrade of the Frankston Train Station and Young St streetscape.
In addition to the public toilet works, landscaping involving plantings at Young St will also be undertaken by Council in May.
The State Government’s Department of Transport has also recently upgraded the bus bay at Young St South by adding a bus shelter and making the stop accessible, and has updated bus bay signage and timetable information across the bus interchange.
In another win for amenity, a toilet block will also be built at Peninsula Reserve, Frank St, Frankston. Funded by Council, it will include one unisex toilet and one disabled access toilet. Works are scheduled to start next month and be completed by September 2021.
