Council rallies community to give Christmas cheer

Frankston City Council is calling on community members to share the joy of giving to those who need our support and kindness. Donate non-perishable items to the Christmas Giving Tree at Frankston Library and taking part in the Peninsula Aquatic Leisure Centre (PARC) Christmas drive.

The Giving Tree appeal

The Giving Tree appeal is aimed at offering much-needed cheer and a few extra goodies and essentials to children, young people, families and anybody dong it tough this Christmas.

Those fortunate in our community to enjoy Christmas with all the trimmings, can pay it forward by offering to those who are struggling. Once collected, donations will be distributed in hampers at the Frankston Life Community Christmas lunch for disadvantaged families and individuals in our region.

When: Donations collected through to Thursday, 22 December.

What to donate: Non-perishable food and other items

Frankston Life Community Christmas lunch coordinator, Pastor Mark Whitby, extends special thanks to the 150 volunteers who will roll up their sleeves to help out on the day.

“Each year, the crowd gets larger at the Frankston Life Community Christmas lunch,” he said, adding how lucky we are to have people thinking about those less fortunate than them in our community.

“Thanks to our volunteers, Christmas becomes a little easier for those struggling. The true blessing of Christmas is all about the joy of giving, caring and sharing.”

PARC’s Christmas appeal

PARC is supporting Frankston’s Young Parent Program and Community Support Frankston’s Christmas hamper drive. A big box has been set up in the foyer for donations that will be distributed to disadvantaged families needing help.

When: Donations collected through to Friday, 16 December.
Where: PARC (corner of Cranbourne Road and Olive Grove, Frankston)
What to donate: Non-perishable food, toys and other items

Mayor Nathan Conroy urges festive shoppers to spare a thought for those who would otherwise go without. They can then take their non-perishable items to either Frankston Library’s giving tree or PARC’s large donation box.

“The rising cost of living means the need for support is growing for people who access our services,” he said.

“What is wonderful about the Frankston City community is that we are compassionate, generous and support each other during times of need. By offering a small contribution you could make a big difference to someone’s Christmas experience.”

Another initiative

Jamie Usher is walking from Flinders Street Station to Portsea.

It’s just over 100km which he aims to complete in 24 hours as part of his goal to raise money for Community Support Frankston and the Frankston Christmas appeal.

Jamie is part of the well-being team at Monterey Secondary College, one of a number of Frankston City schools which the appeal works to help during the festive season.
