EOI open for board of new Frankston Business and Industry Chamber
Published on 16 February 2022
Frankston City Council is calling for Expressions of Interest from qualified locals to serve on the voluntary board of the new Frankston Business and Industry Chamber. Applications close on 28 February 2022.
Frankston City Mayor Nathan Conroy said: “Council is committed to supporting the business and industry sectors here in Frankston.
“This support for business is underscored by $200,000 funding to re-establish the new Frankston Business and Industry Chamber,” Mayor Conroy said.
Since the initiative to re-establish the chamber was announced in October 2021, the business and industry working group has met a number of times to determine the vision for the new chamber as well as the governance and financial models.
Jeff Rogut, former Australasian Association of Convenience Stores CEO, has been appointed to oversee the development of the new Chamber. Mr Rogut’s extensive business background includes working with a number of major retailers in the merchandise area, as a franchisor and franchisee, heading the Australian Centre for Retail Studies at Monash University.
Mr Rogut said: “The working group meetings have been extremely productive and well attended by a mix of business and industry representatives from sole traders right through to major employers such as Chisholm TAFE and Monash University, as well as our local MP Paul Edbrooke and members of the Frankston Revitalisation Board.
“The working group meetings have crystallised the vision for the new chamber and helped set clear expectations around what the chamber will deliver on behalf of local and business industries including advocacy and networking as well as information sharing and training opportunities,” said Mr Rogut.
The Chamber will be charged with influencing, and delivering policies and outcomes to assist in driving economic growth and create opportunities to invest, work, live and visit Frankston City.
“What is absolutely key in the establishment of this new chamber is that it is developed by business and industry, for business and industry.”
“The next step in the process is to recruit a board who will be responsible for the day to day running of the chamber,” explained Mr Rogut.
Expressions of interest are sought from suitably qualified business and industry leaders who can support the chamber from launch to embed the new organisation in the fabric of the Frankston business and industry community.
Candidates with previous board, management or mentoring experience are encouraged to apply.
“We’re looking for a range of skill sets for the new board,” explained Mr Rogut.
“From innovators and creative problem solvers through to strategic thinkers and financial experts and marketers – we want to hear from you.”
Frankston City Council is providing initial support to establish the new chamber and will take a step back once it is up and running so it can continue to flourish independently of Council.
