Frankston launches Smart City Partnership with eyes on the future
Published on 17 June 2022
Frankston City Council is participating in the Regional Smart City Partnership with another 5 Councils to increase smart city opportunities across the South and Eastern Melbourne suburbs.
The Regional Smart City Partnership brings together the City of Frankston with Casey, Stonnington, Maroondah, Knox and Boroondara to share data and experiences in the deployment of smart technology and infrastructure. We believe that our participation in this program will increase our capabilities in the smart city space and promote sustainable development as Frankston grows and develops.
Frankston City Council Mayor Nathan Conroy said: “Over the last 3 years we have seen dramatic changes to our cities and the way in which technology and innovation can help boost their resilience and solve problems. For this reason, our Council is committed to seeking new opportunities offered through the Smart City infrastructure to better utilise technology and innovation. We can benefit from such partnerships as we move to the future.”
Initiatives we’ve taken so far
You may have already seen some of our initiatives as part of the Smart City program. These include:
- electric bikes: Frankston became the first city in Victoria and first non-state capital city to adopt Neuron Mobility pedal-assisted e-bikes last summer.
- charging stations: The e-bike charging stations at Frankston Foreshore enable people to travel further on their e-bikes.
- Digital Wayfinders: Our digital wayfinding screens located at Frankston Foreshore, Wells Street and Young Street (in front of the train station) made their appearance in June 2022.
These initiatives are just the start of efforts to make Frankston a more liveable city.
