Library Home Services - Mayor Conroy Volunteer Rhondda

Frankston City’s Home Library Service is proving a real page turner for bookworms!

Mayor Nathan Conroy said Home Library Service volunteers deliver a range of resources including books, magazines, large print books, talking books, films and music CDs.

“The service is free and available to Frankston City residents who are unable to visit the Library due to illness, frailty, disability or short-term mobility restrictions,” Mayor Conroy said.

“Our dedicated volunteers are currently delivering vital and much anticipated resources to over 78 residents across Frankston City.

“Locals love reading and library materials – when the Library closed during the first lockdown, library items were couriered with 904 library bags delivered from April – November 2020,” the Mayor said.

Mayor Conroy recently caught up with Home Library Service volunteer Rhondda Millar, noting our volunteers do us proud and continually demonstrate the true meaning of community spirit.

Ms Millar said: “I love being part of the Home Library Service as it gives me the opportunity to combine my love of libraries with my love for meeting people who also enjoy what a library can offer but due to various circumstances are unable to go to their local library to pick up their books, DVDs and other items.

“The social connection with my home library patrons when I drop off a selection of items or when I drop by to assist with an e-book is a treasured part of my day.

“The smiles I am greeted with and the conversation that is exchanged on a variety of topics is the best part of each visit. I also follow up my visit with a phone call and enjoy getting rung by my home library clients when they want to chat about their day,” she said.

Ms Millar said she loved working with the Frankston City Libraries team, adding: “This service warms my heart.”

Frankston City Libraries offers an extensive range of services including the FrankTALKS discussions with authors in the series, online 24/7 student support, language tutorials, free access to researching family history and digital magazines available.
