District Basketball and Gymnastics Stadium - Concept Image

On Thursday 17 March 2022, Council was invited to attend a special announcement from Peta Murphy MP, Federal Member for Dunkley and Jim Chalmers MP, Shadow Federal Treasurer where a $15 million election commitment was made towards delivering a new Frankston Basketball and Gymnastics Stadium.

This project has been identified as one of five key advocacy projects ahead of the 2022 federal and state elections, and is underpinned by robust feasibility, concept development, independent costings and community consultation. Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers stated the project “is a no brainer” which is a tremendous nod to Frankston City Council’s work on this project.

I’d like to congratulate and thank Frankston District Basketball Association and Bayside Gymnastics Club for their efforts to date in ensuring our representatives understand how important this project is to our community.

This funding announcement matches Council’s existing commitment of $15 million and means we’re one step closer to providing the additional basketball courts we know our community needs now and into the future, and to finally deliver a long-awaited permanent home for community gymnastics.

We still need equal commitments of $15 million from Federal Government and State Government and Opposition in order to bring this exciting project to life and I look forward to continuing discussions with all levels and political interests to achieve this.”
