Locals and visitors have long celebrated Frankston City’s enviable and beautiful blend of city, bush and bay and the unique lifestyle experience which this creates.
Frankston City Council Mayor Nathan Conroy said this is now being acknowledged on the main stage with Frankston winning Bronze at the 2022 Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards.
Mayor Conroy added: “Winning Bronze is a fantastic achievement and speaks volumes not only about our wonderful City, but more importantly the direction we’re heading with our street art and other stunning attractions and in our progressive approach to reinvigorating Frankston with new and vibrant businesses and experiences.
“More people are catching on that Frankston is becoming its own destination drawcard. The City has come a long way in the last 10 years. We’re seeing this in the crafters and innovators that are setting up shop and bringing to life to the streets.
“There is a new energy in the City. It’s not just businesses, but also families are flocking to this urban bayside destination to enjoy the best of all worlds,” the Mayor said.
Frankston won Bronze in the Top Town category (population of 5,000 or more) with Bendigo scoring Gold and Echuca taking home the Silver.
Eighteen towns were finalists across three categories. The Top Town category had 8 finalists, all of which are significant tourism destinations in Victoria.
Mayor Conroy noted that while making it to Finalist was decided by the judges, the Bronze was awarded by public vote, adding: “Frankston holds a special place in the hearts of both residents and visitors. We are so humbled that so many people chose to vote for Frankston to support the work we are doing to keep the city progressing into the future.”
Council Coordinator Tourism and Campaign Marketing, Amy Parsons, said the Top Tourism Town Awards recognise and reward Victorian towns that demonstrate a strong commitment to and encourage tourism, offer an excellent visitor experience, and collaborate with businesses and the community to make their town the best destination it can be.
Ms Parsons said Frankston City’s campaign created for the awards targeted millennials and promoted the time to travel and visit Frankston is ‘Right Here, Right Now’.
“Frankston has taken it up a notch – earlier this year we were awarded gold in the 2021 Australian Street Art Awards for Best Street Art Tour and Frankston City was deservedly recognised as a finalist in the Top Tourism Town Awards for 2021.
“Now we’ve gone one better in 2022 and won Bronze – congratulations Frankston!” Ms Parsons said.
