Frankston City Council is turning its focus to Baxter Park open space and Frankston City’s equestrian facilities in its latest round of community engagement.

Council has developed a draft Baxter Park master plan to guide future investment in the reserve and is now seeking community input on the proposed plan.

Council has also developed a draft equestrian master plan to guide future planning and development at the Baxter and Langwarrin Equestrian Reserves.

Mayor Nathan Conroy said Council was working closely with sporting clubs and community groups to draft the master plans to ensure the reserves continue to be great places for people to meet, enjoy nature, exercise, ride and play sport.

“Baxter Park is one of our largest reserves and is home to a range of sporting clubs and community groups including archery, horse riding, AFL, soccer, cricket, netball, walkers and trail runners, as well as remnant bushland, native birds and animals,” explained the Mayor.

“Frankston City is also lucky enough to have not one but two equestrian reserves so we’re also taking the time to consult on how these sites could be upgraded so we can plan and budget for future works. This might include improved site layout and better equestrian facilities like sand arenas and wash bays.

The draft Baxter Park master plan builds on feedback from sporting clubs and community groups and includes ideas for:

  • Improved car and pedestrian access and movement to and from the reserve with separate car parking, pedestrian crossings and better lighting
  • Improvements to ovals and pitches, pavilions, spectator areas and training facilities including female friendly facilities
  • Consolidation and refurbishment of existing tennis courts to multipurpose courts
  • New district level playground with additional and improved community gathering places, shelters, BBQS and public toilets
  • Protection and enhancement of remnant bushland vegetation and habitat links, and revegetation around the site

Frankston Council is also seeking feedback from the community on the draft equestrian master plan which includes Baxter Equestrian Reserve and Langwarrin Equestrian Reserve.

Proposed improvements to Baxter equestrian reserve include:

  • Improved equestrian facilities including a new sand arena and water jump
  • New entry and access
  • Walking trails and revegetation works
  • Improved site layout including parking

Improvements to Langwarrin equestrian Reserve include:

  • New clubroom and storage shed
  • Grade 1 and 2 cross-country trails
  • Walking trails and revegetation 
  • Improved site layout including parking

Consultation on both master plans closes on Sunday 10 July.
