Sprucing up Seaford and Stiebel Lane

Frankston City Council, in partnership with the Victorian Government is funding activation grants to bring Stiebel Lane and Seaford’s Nepean Highway shopping strip to life.
Frankston City Mayor, Nathan Conroy said:
“This year, in partnership with the Victorian Government, Council is offering a range of different grants to support businesses put their best foot forward. It’s our largest pool of business grant funding on record recognising that Council is right behind the local business community as we emerge from lockdown.
“As part of this funding round we are looking at two specific locations in Frankston, Stiebel Lane and Seaford’s Nepean Highway shopping strip – two highly visible parts of Frankston with lots of opportunity to improve.
“Stiebel Lane is the service lane that runs behind Robinson’s Bookshop and Chemist Warehouse right in the centre of Frankston City. Stiebel Lane is the perfect opportunity to bring a touch of Melbourne laneway culture to the streets of Frankston.
“There’s lots of scope to make this a more inviting, pedestrian friendly part of the city and our urban design team is already investigating lighting options as well as street art.
“We can also do our bit by supporting retailers to improve their presentation and activation on Stiebel Lane whether that’s new awnings, servery hatches or signage.
“Putting our best foot forward is really important as we come out of lockdown – visually appealing streets improve the perception of Frankston with positive flow-on effects for the economy, community safety as well as social and cultural benefits,” explained the Mayor.
“We need to drive footfall and visitation and we, of course, want to ensure locals and visitors spend money right here in Frankston. To do that, we have to make our city a great place to be with an attractive retail offer.”
Between Frankston’s iconic Seaford Beach and Seaford Train Station, lies Seaford’s Nepean Highway shopping strip. This highly visible and popular tourist destination will also benefit from Council and Victorian Government funding.
“Seaford Beach is a popular destination for local and visitors alike with its crystal-clear waters, architecturally designed Lifesaving Club and excellent transport connections,” said the Mayor.
Invest Frankston are working closely with local businesses to provide support through the grant application process.
State Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke said:
“The Victorian Government is pleased to be working in partnership with Frankston City Council to breathe new life into Stiebel Lane and Seaford. As we come out of lockdown, we need to support our local businesses, give their street frontages a spruce up and encourage locals and visitors to get out and about in the centre of Frankston and along Seaford’s Nepean Highway shopping strip.”
