Stunning Opportunity for Frankston Restaurateurs
Published on 15 March 2022
Frankston City has dished up a tasty opportunity for restaurateurs at a breathtaking beachside location.
Expressions of Interest are now open for a food and hospitality business at the stunning, architecturally designed Frankston Yacht Club building.
Mayor Nathan Conroy said: “Positioned at the mouth of the Kananook Creek, with its boardwalk, boating ramp and famous bridge, the $11 million Frankston Yacht Club is an iconic, architecturally designed building that captures the absolute best of Frankston including beach and bay views.
“The Frankston Yacht Club is a wonderful asset for Frankston and we’ve already signed a tenant for the ground floor with Oliver’s Corner beach bar and cafe scheduled to open in early 2022.
“Now it’s time to kick it up a notch with a destination dining offering for the first floor to take the Frankston Yacht Club and the Frankston dining scene to the next level,” the Mayor said.
Inspired by its natural surroundings including the famed Frankston Beach, Kananook Creek, boardwalk, bridge, tea tree and banksia dunes, the Frankston Yacht Club is in a prime foreshore position with beautiful bay vistas and sunsets, easy access to car parking, boat ramps, the Frankston Arts Centre, SkyBus Stadium and Frankston Tourism Information Centre. It is a short walk from Frankston Station and the City centre.
Architect Gregory Burgess, who designed Peninsula Hot Springs and the refurbishment of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, took inspiration from the club’s natural setting within the coastal tea tree and banksia dunes next to Kananook Creek.
With floor to ceiling windows as well as outdoor terrace area, the design of the Frankston Yacht Club capitalises on spectacular 180-degree views of Port Phillip Bay, making it the perfect sunset bay backdrop for catching up with family and friends.
The internal fit out for the first-floor restaurant space is being brought to life by Breathe Architects, Australia’s most awarded sustainable design firm.
Breathe’s approach is leading a transformation in building design with environmental, social and economic sustainability at its very heart.
Council’s ambition for the first-floor space is to partner with a forward-thinking hospitality operator who sees the potential of the Frankston Yacht Club and can take the iconic venue to the next level, anchoring Frankston’s foreshore precinct in the minds of locals and visitors as the beachside dining destination.
Mayor Conroy said: “With a significant pipeline of investment coming on stream in Frankston, the City is perfectly poised to realise its full potential as Melbourne’s city by the bay.
“With a strong health and education sector, excellent employment opportunities, luxury apartment and office developments and a beach lifestyle, the face of Frankston is changing.
“Locals and visitors are rediscovering ‘Frankston City’ with a wave of interest in our pristine beaches, fishing, boating and water sports as well as our natural reserves and arts and entertainment offering,” the Mayor said.
Council CEO Phil Cantillon said: “Frankston is changing and we’re already seeing significant investment from the private sector based on our City’s strong fundamentals: excellent location and lifestyle, proximity to high quality health and education and a supportive Council.
“Council has invested significant funds in the Frankston Yacht Club and it is the anchor destination in an active and appealing foreshore experience for locals and visitors alike.
“The foreshore is Frankston’s jewel and the time is right to find a hospitality partner who sees the potential of the opportunity and can capitalise on the fantastic views at this rare beachside location.
“Combined with Council’s commitment to securing and attracting major events as well as record infrastructure investment and a proactive approach to economic development, the time to invest in Frankston is now,” Mr Cantillon said.
