The impressive new program was unveiled to 2023 members at a VIP event, hosted by multi award winning artist, Catherine Alcorn, who performs as the Divine Miss Bette.
Works such as Silence and The Sunshine Club, from our First Nations storytellers, will share the stories of the oldest continuous culture on Earth.
Contemporary stories about representation of disability in the deeply moving and uplifting story of Personal, by Jodee Mundy, ensures patrons look beyond their own world and understanding to learn more, and to open their eyes and hearts to the human experience.
Jacob Rajan’s vibrant performance in Paradise plunges theatregoers into the heady depths of downtown Mumbai – proving that international travel can happen from the comfort of your seat.
Season launch host, Catherine Alcorn, said it was wonderful to see so many people attending and passionate about the arts, adding this gave performers great hope.
Frankston Arts Centre’s Head of Programming, Heidi Irvine, said: “Frankston Arts Centre’s 2023 Season is one of hope, passion, inspiration and most importantly, joy.
“We welcome back some of our favourite companies and are thrilled to introduce you to some new faces.
“You’ll have the opportunity to see some of Australia’s best contemporary dance, engage in fun and fantastical family theatre, belly laugh out loud with great comedians (and a couple of clowns) and discover little known stories which will fill your heart and soul.
“The 2023 Season is an opportunity for us to make sure our stages are for everyone. Ensuring that the people, stories and faces across the works we present is indicative of the world we live in, is an important priority.
“We are making an active choice to embrace new beginnings and acknowledge that we are all ready for opportunities to smile again. I mean, maybe Shakespeare had it right after all when he said, ‘Make the upcoming hour overflow with joy, and let pleasure drown the brim’,” Ms Irvine said.
The Season 2023 launch included performances by the Divine Miss Bette and dysfunctional art rockers Otto and Astrid.
