The Greek islands come to Playne Street at Gapfed Cafe

A touch of the Greek islands has docked in Playne Street.
As part of Frankston City Council’s extended outdoor dining campaign - Do It Outdoors 2.0 – a new outside dining experience has been installed at Gapfed café in Frankston.
Inspired by the colours and flavours of the Mediterranean and Greek islands, the new extended outdoor dining area is decorated with blue and white, mosaic style, floor paint, umbrellas, picnic tables and concrete planters filled with olive trees.
The new outdoor dining space seats 54 people comfortably.
Gapfed owner Greg Chronopoulis said he “absolutely loves” the new space.
“We are so excited and grateful for what council and Invest Frankston have done for us. I look out my window and I feel I like I am on a Greek Island somewhere, it’s just beautiful and our customers are loving it,” Mr Chronopoulis said.
“The inspiration came from Greece and we worked in conjunction with Council on the design, we just love the olive trees and the mosaic floor, we are so thankful with what they’ve done.”
The outdoor dining at Gapfed, along with nearby Nepean Highway’s new installations has been funded thanks to a grant as part of the Victorian Government’s Outdoor Dining program and a further grant from the Frankston Revitalisation Board, which is chaired by the State Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke MP.
Mr Edbrooke said he was “loving the results of the State and Council outdoor dining partnership”.
“This partnership helps support wonderful local businesses with the infrastructure and support they need to welcome our community back to enjoying Frankston’s CBD.”
Frankston City Mayor Nathan Conroy encourages locals to make the most of the new outdoor options.
“I’m so pleased to see another venue benefit from Council’s work to ensure Frankston has beautiful outdoor dining spaces. Creating vibrant, appealing spaces encourages locals to get out and about once again and it’s all part of our ongoing commitment to boosting the local economy in the wake of COVID-19.
“We all know what a challenging time it’s been for the hospitality industry with the uncertainty the pandemic brings, so I encourage everyone to get out and make the most of these beautiful outdoor dining venues especially in this warmer weather we’re enjoying,” said the Mayor.
Frankston City Council funding for the outdoor dining program is part of our next chapter as we work towards a well-planned and liveable city with a thriving economy.
