Frankston Charitable Fund gives boost to local charities

Eight local charities in Frankston City received a $42,685 funding boost during a ceremony at Functions by the Bay on Wednesday, 17 May.

These grants from the Frankston Charitable Fund will go a long way towards supporting our local community due to the rising cost of living and increased demands for services following the global pandemic. This year, Council is helping more charities than ever before with eight local groups sharing from the funding pool.

Frankston City Mayor Nathan Conroy, who sits on the Fund’s Committee of Management with Councillor Suzette Tayler, said, “We are proud of the Frankston Charitable Fund for offering support to organisations working with our Council to meet demands of the most vulnerable members of our community.”

The charities receiving funds are:

Game Face Game Changer ($5,160) to support sporting clubs to make positive changes in the mental health of their members.
Operation Larder ($5,000) to continue to provide free emergency food relief through Community Support Frankston.
Peninsula Christian Care ($5,500) for the 2023 Frankston Winter Shelter Project that will provide 13 weeks of nightly crisis accommodation for up to 10 people experiencing homelessness in Frankston City.
Peninsula Transport Assist ($4,000) for free or subsidised transport for health and social inclusion appointments to clients based in Frankston City.
Theodora’s Cheerful Givers ($5,000) to continue to provide non-perishable and hygiene items through Community Support Frankston.
Miscarriage Information Support Service ($6,436) for an eBook support resource for anyone impacted by miscarriage in our community.
Mums Supporting Families in Need ($9,089) for a ‘Baby Essentials Program’ that would allow for the distribution of child safety items through social welfare agencies who work with vulnerable families in need.
Voices of Frankston Choir ($2,500) for their weekly music education program.

Laura Harris from the Mums Supporting Families in Need said, “We will use this money to support families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford essential baby items. It will help those struggling to access essential baby items such as nappies, bottles, formula and other baby supplies. We work in partnership with over 80 welfare agencies in the community who identify people in need so we can offer them some relief during times of hardships.”

The Voices of Frankston Choir, among this year’s recipients, entertained those present at the Gifting Ceremony with a number of songs. “Thank you so much for this grant, it is much appreciated and will help our choir operating for another year. Our weekly music education program has helped people not only develop music skills but reduce stress, improve self-esteem and create friendships,” Trudi MacKenzie said.

The Frankston Charitable Fund is part of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund, established 100 years ago. The Fund’s Chairperson Jackie Galloway said, “We have awarded over $250,000 worth of grants to 62 local charities since the Fund’s creation in 2009. In recent years the demand has increased, making the Fund more necessary than ever.”
