Cr Nathan Conroy has been elected for a third successive Mayoral term – the first person to achieve the honour in the history of Frankston City.

Mayor Conroy said he was rapt to be re-elected by fellow Councillors at the Council Meeting last night (15 November), adding: “It has already been an amazing two years as Mayor, but I was keen to continue my mission of advocating for the interests of residents and positively representing Frankston City.

“No other Mayor in Victoria is currently getting to experience the pace of change and growth that we are seeing here. No other City presents as many opportunities and prospects for its residents.

“It is incredibly exciting times. Many thanks to my fellow Councillors for their continued vote of confidence and most importantly, many thanks to my darling wife, Steffie, and son, Callan, for their patience as I continue to throw myself into my duties as Mayor every day!”

Councillors voted to defer the election of Deputy Mayor to a Council Meeting on Monday, 20 November 2023.

This is Mayor Conroy’s first four-year term on Council and he was initially elected by his Councillor colleagues as Deputy Mayor in November 2020 before being elected as Mayor in November, 2021 and November, 2022 respectively. Last night’s re-election as Mayor represents his third consecutive Mayoral term.

Mayor Conroy has proudly attended over 2000 events, festivals, meetings and briefings on behalf of the City since being elected to the top position, saying: “I will do as much as I possibly can to promote Frankston and to represent the people, the community every day.

“I am proud of our Frankston Metropolitan Activity Centre Structure Plan and look forward until this is fully adopted into our planning scheme. This vision for our city is monumental. It will change the city, but I believe for the better, it gives Council more control over the built form, setbacks, and height.

“Frankston City is the greatest city in Victoria. We are no longer a gateway to anywhere, we are the destination and the capital of the southeast. Frankston City is finally going to reach its full potential.”

Council CEO Phil Cantillon congratulated Mayor Conroy for his dedication and service, adding: “The Mayor has contributed enormously to the business and outcomes of the Council in so many ways.

“Whether that’s been to build a deeper understanding of the vast array of services and programs we provide, rolling up his sleeves on key issues or out their speaking to our diverse community groups.”

Mr Cantillon praised the Mayor’s grasp, drive and skill to articulate Frankston’s amazing future, adding: “He returns to the role of Mayor with the best wishes and support of myself and the organisation.”
