Think Local and celebrate Frankston City businesses this March
Published on 01 March 2024
Running for the month of March, Frankston City Council’s Think Local Month encourages local workers, businesses and the community to shop locally to support small and medium businesses.
The campaign aims to increase local spending to keep money in our community, strengthen employment, support local entrepreneurs, reduce carbon footprints and build local connections.
For every $100 spent on a local business, an estimated $68 stays within the local economy, compared to $43 for non-local businesses and for every $100 spent online, less than five dollars remains in your local community (REMPLAN Economy Software).
Frankston City’s retail sector alone makes up 780 businesses and provides 6,400 local jobs. Of those, it is estimated for every 100 jobs, a further 34 jobs are supported across the local economy (REMPLAN Economy Software).
Think Local Month includes multiple workshop and training opportunities, 100 x $1000 business grants, a small business expo and a $500 local business voucher for one lucky resident.
The month also includes business growth workshops for builders and trades, advice for start-ups, google advertising, business planning, video marketing, social enterprising and wellbeing.
Frankston City Council Deputy Mayor Liam Hughes said small and medium businesses play a vital role in energising our community, driving economic growth, and shaping a vibrant and thriving City.
Deputy Mayor Hughes said: “From manufacturing, construction, retail and hospitality to home-based services, health care, beauty and real estate, Frankston City is bustling with 44,000 small and medium enterprises helping to boost our economy and make this city the best place to live, work, play, learn and invest.
“Shopping locally is crucial for the sustainability and growth of our local economy, as well as the development of a strong and resilient community. By supporting local entrepreneurs, keeping money in the community, and enjoying personalised service and unique offerings, you are contributing to the vitality of the area,” he added.
