Oval upgrade opens door for more sport and event opportunities
Published on 11 November 2024
Apart from all being football codes, what do Aussie rules, soccer and rugby have in common?
They’ll soon all be able to be played at one of our largest and most popular ovals, Frankston Park (also known as Kinetic Stadium)!
The oval is having a major facelift as part of Council’s sportsground renewal program, which means we’re replacing the old and outdated irrigation and drainage, and updating the surface to include partial hybrid turf, and new infrastructure to take it from an Aussie rules oval to an elite multi-purpose facility!
We know the oval always look great thanks to the efforts of our turf maintenance staff, but it was due for an upgrade so that it can meet the growing needs of footy players (of all types!) for many more years.
Works kicked off in late October (after the AFLW Hawks’ last home game for 2024) and are expected to be finished by April, in time for Frankston Football Club to kick off their 2025 season. This is the best time for us to re-turf the oval so that the grass can grow in the warmer months and knit together for the best ground coverage.
The whole park will be closed during construction, so if you walk your dog in the grassed area around the side of the oval, please check out one of our other dog exercise areas during this time: Free roam, on leash and prohibited areas for pets - Frankston City Council
And if you want to check out the Frankston Footy Club during the pre-season, you’ll find them training at Belvedere Park, Seaford, which will also host the Frankston Gift in 2025.
