Run in partnership with Frankston City Council’s Family Health Support Services and the Aldercourt Primary School Playgroup, the pilot program offered new mums the chance to focus on their physical and mental wellbeing. It also enabled participants to engage with each other and their child in a supported and fully funded, four-week program.

The four-week program, funded by Peninsula Leisure and free for the mums, featured a Mums and Bubs Yoga Class and presentations from Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre’s (PARC) Personal Trainers on how to look after your wellbeing post-partum through exercise and nutrition. There was also a Mums and Bubs water familiarisation session at PARC.

For the final session, participants were able to leave their babies at the PARC Creche and take some time for themselves at PARC either swimming or attending a group exercise class.

Following the first pilot, three participants have taken up a PARC Active Pathways membership – a fully subsidised pilot program for eligible participants through Peninsula Leisure’s partnership with Reclink Australia.

Peninsula Leisure Health and Fitness Manager, Pru Phillips, said: “We are so happy to welcome these new PARC users. It’s a testament to the effectiveness of our program and the profound impact that activity and connection has on overall wellbeing.

“We're building a community of empowered and resilient mothers, ready to embrace a healthier lifestyle,” she said.

Participants reported to PARC staff they experienced greater social connection and health benefits through the program, with many of them trying new wellbeing experiences for the first time.

Based on the success of the first pilot, Peninsula Leisure has partnered with Frankston Peninsula Multiple Birth Association for a similar eight Week Focus on Wellness Program, aimed at helping parents of multiple children (twins, triplets and more) to get back into exercise and focus on their overall wellbeing.

Mrs Phillips added: “I am incredibly proud to contribute to a project that empowers parents to prioritise their physical and mental health, and foster meaningful connections with their children.

“Together, we're making a difference in the community, providing that extra support to groups who truly need it,” she said.

Peninsula Leisure is aiming to expand the pilot to include other disadvantaged community members, who experience barriers to being active.

Peninsula Leisure Pty Ltd is a subsidiary company wholly owned by Frankston City Council and is charged with the management of Council’s two aquatic facilities, Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre and Pines Forest Aquatic Centre.
