Apply for an activities permit

You will need an activities permit to hold an activity within the City Centre or Central Activities Area (CAA) which attract members of the public to participate and observe, such as :

  • promotion or charity collection
  • organising a petition
  • sausage sizzle
  • promotion or campaign
  • other community activities. 

Areas where an activities permit is required

You will need to apply for a permit if your activity will take place on Council owned or managed land within the municipality. This includes, but is not limited to: 

  • parks and reserves
  • foreshore
  • city centre or CAA
  • car parks
  • streets 
  • nature strips.

Step 1.Prepare your application

You may need to include the following supporting documents with your application: 

  • Certificate of Currency (Public Liability Insurance)
  • food handling certificates and registration with FoodTrader (if you intend to serve food)
  • Traffic Management Plan (if your activity will impact traffic or require the use of a parking bay)
  • Engineer’s Certificate of Compliance (VBA Certificate of Compliance for Proposed Building Work (issued by an engineer) on a prescribed form) for activities which involve amusement rides or jumping castles
  • Public Liability Certificate of Currency of the amusement ride provider (if any)
  • risk assessment (for activities running cables, using face paint, setting up a marquee or using vehicles on the footpath).

Step 2.Submit your application

Send your completed form and supporting documents to:

Step 3.What happens next?

We will contact you to pay the relevant fee. 

Once your application has been assessed, we will contact you to grant approval or request additional information or documentation.
