New red bin lids
Frankston City Council is implementing a new red bin lid, in line with updated standards supported by the Victorian Government.
The changes make it easier for residents to identify where their waste and recycling should go, further reducing resource loss that occurs when items are incorrectly placed in bins
Residents won’t need to do anything to facilitate the bin lid change, which will occur during regular collection times. Council is also recycling old bin lids into new bins.
The following FAQ section may answer your questions:
What’s changing?
We are swapping your existing garbage bin lid for a new red lid. Council is introducing a new red bin lid for our garbage bins, in line with Victorian Government standards.
Why are we making this change?
The change brings us in line with the new Victorian Government guidelines rolled out across the state, providing a standardised waste management system aimed at reducing waste to landfill. The change makes it a consistent message across Victoria for residents to identify where their waste and recycling should go, further reducing resource loss that occurs when items are incorrectly placed in bins.
Are you recycling the old lids?
All existing dark green bin lids will be collected and recycled into new kerbside bins supplied to households in the future.
Who do the changes apply to?
All existing Council kerbside services.
How will this change benefit me?
The change allows for all Councils to provide a consistent message to residents resulting in improving the understanding of what goes into each bin, reduces waste to landfill and further reducing resource loss that occurs when items are incorrectly placed in bins.
How will the changeover happen?
The change is easy. The new red lids will be rolled out from Monday, 31 October over a 6 – 8 week period.
Once the collection vehicle has emptied your garbage bin, leave your garbage bin empty on your nature strip or relevant collection point until close of business on your collection day and our independent contractors will swap your lid over to red within this 6 – 8 week period.
Are my rates being increased?
No, your rates are not being increased.
Can I make a change to my bins?
Yes – for all changes to your existing services please contact Council on 1300 322 322.
What can go in each of my bins?
Information on what goes into each bin can be found here.
How can I reduce my waste?
We all generate waste, but you can help reduce the impact of what you buy and consume, by following some simple steps. To find out more about these steps and get some useful tips to manage your waste, click here.
Will my collection change?
No. All collections will remain the same.
What if my lid was not changed over?
Bin lid changes will take place between 6am – 5pm on collection days.
If we weren’t able to swap your bin lid over please be assured we will get to you within the 6 – 8 week period. Council will request your assistance by leaving your garbage bin empty on your nature strip or relevant collection point until close of business on your collection day, as it is not the collection vehicles swapping over the lids.
If you still have a green lid by the 9 December, please contact Council on 1300 322 322.
