What goes in my general waste bin?

What can be accepted

  • biodegradable, degradable and compostable plastic packaging, plates and cutlery
  • broken ceramics, glass cookware and drinking glasses
  • cigarette butts
  • food waste (if you don't already have a food and garden waste bin)
  • kitty litter and animal waste
  • nappies (bagged)
  • polystyrene
  • soft scrunchable plastic packaging such as plastic bags, bread bags and plastic wrap
  • takeaway coffee cups
  • vacuum dust (bagged).

What cannot be accepted

  • recyclables (these can go in your kerbside mixed recycling bin)
  • glass bottles and jars
  • garden waste
  • hazardous chemicals, oil, liquids or paint
  • hot ashes or flammable materials
  • medical or infectious waste such as syringes or needles
  • building materials or trade waste
  • items that prevents the bin lid from completely closing.
