What goes in my glass recycling bin?

Before placing items in the purple glass recycling bin, please ensure they are empty and lightly rinsed.  All lids are to be placed in your mixed recycling bin.

Ensure items are placed in the bin loose, not in bags.

What can be collected

  • Glass bottles including: beer, wine and olive oil bottles (lids removed) 
  • Glass jars including: pasta sauce and condiment jars (lids removed) 
  • Glass medicine and vitamin bottles 

What cannot be collected 

  • building materials or trade waste
  • plastic bottle lids (all lids to be placed in yellow mixed recycling bin)
  • clothing, linen, pet beds or shoes
  • e-waste
  • food
  • garbage waste
  • hazardous or medical waste
  • motor oil containers
  • nappies
  • plastic bags or other soft, scrunchable plastic packaging
  • polystyrene
  • recycling in bags
  • items that prevent the bin lid from completely closing.

After your glass recycling bin is emptied into a Solo truck every 4 weeks, the contents are transported to Re-Groups Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Dandenong South.
