What goes in my mixed recycling bin?
What can be collected
- steel cans
- aluminium cans, foil and trays
- cardboard and paper
- plastic bottles, containers and trays.
Before placing items in the yellow mixed recycling bin, please ensure they are empty and lightly rinsed.
Ensure items are placed in the bin loose, not in bags.
Aluminium cans and some plastic bottles are eligible for 10c refund at participating locations, to find out which containers are eligible for the 10c refund visit Victoria‘s Container Deposit Scheme | Find Eligible Containers (cdsvic.org.au)
What cannot be collected
- glass bottles and jars
- batteries
- building materials or trade waste
- clothing, linen, pet beds or shoes
- electrical waste
- food waste
- general waste
- hazardous or medical waste
- motor oil containers
- nappies
- plastic bags or other soft, scrunchable plastic packaging
- polystyrene
- recycling in bags
- items that prevent the bin lid from completely closing.

After your mixed recycling bin is emptied into a Solo truck each fortnight, the contents are transported to Re-Groups Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Dandenong South.
