Updated certificate lodgement dates for swimming pool and spas
On Tuesday, 19th October 2021, the Minister for Planning, Richard Wynne, extended the deadline for owners to lodge pool and spa barrier compliance certificates with their local council. The deadline extension recognises the limited opportunity for building inspectors to visit homes during the pandemic.
The first certificate lodgement deadline was extended from 1 November 2021 to 1 June 2022, with subsequent lodgement deadlines also moved back to June 2023 and June 2024, respectively.
If you have registered your swimming pool/spa with Council and received a registration letter that reflects the due date of 1 November 2022, please note that the extension above is applicable. You have until 1 June 2023 to provide a Certificate of Barrier Compliance to Council without applying for a deadline extension.
If you have engaged the services of a pool inspector and received advice on improvement works needed, all works must be completed by the due dates set by the inspector. In this case, the deadline extension is not applicable as the barrier has already been deemed to be of risk.
This deadline extension is only valid to property owners that have registered with Council as investigations, infringements, and penalties are being processed.
