Baden Powell Kindergarten is about to get an upgrade!
In early June 2024, we are set to kick off the construction stage of our latest kindergarten expansion.
The expansion is part of Council’s commitment to ensuring all children in Frankston City have access to free kindergarten education.
Our Building Blocks Partnership, funded by Frankston City Council and the Victorian Government, involves the design, build and expansion of several kindergartens across municipality to meet the growing demand for early education.At Baden Powel Reserve, the existing Kindergarten and Maternal & Child Health buildings will be demolished and a brand new designed modular building will be installed.
Once complete, kindergarten families and Maternal & Child Health service users will be able to enjoy and access both services within the same building.
Expansion Details
The new building will include the following:

Increase from one room to a three room kindergarten.

Increased kindergarten places to 99 places.

Beautifully designed and refreshed outdoor play space.

One Maternal & Child Health consultation room.

One Allied Health consultation/meeting room.

Dedicated Playgroup room.

Dedicated Playgroup outdoor space.
Consultation
The new building design was informed by feedback from the community during community engagement initiatives in 2023, and continued feedback and consultation with the existing kindergarten, local community groups and environmental specialists. The community told us they wanted as much of the original yard and its feel retained, the big gum trees preserved, and highlighted the need for additional car parking.
Design
With your feedback, the new design is focused on:

Being family and community centred.

Improving safety and accessibility with universal design principles that ensure all children and families can navigate the space comfortably.

Visually connecting indoor and outdoor environments with the natural landscape and features surrounding the site.

Expanding educational spaces with three state-of-the-art kindergarten rooms designed for modern learning experiences.
Construction impacts
We aim to keep any inconveniences to a minimum. One of the benefits of a modular building is that most of the structure is premade off site, significantly reducing on-site construction time and associated disturbances.
However, please note there will be brief periods when access to the nearby Baden Powell Reserve will be restricted and there may be short traffic disruptions along Humphries Road. The main carpark which provides access to Baden Powell Reserve will be restricted during this period.
Timeline milestones

June – July 2024: Demolition of old Kindergarten and Maternal & Child Health buildings

July 2024: Delivery and installation of modular building
