Frankston Park oval reconstruction
October 2024 – April 2025
We’re improving the oval at Frankston Park (Kinetic Stadium) to meet the growing needs of football players at all levels and expanding its use to cater to rugby, soccer, and non-sporting events.
The upgrade is part of council’s ongoing sports ground renewal program and follows the completion of the Overport Park oval reconstruction earlier this year.
The project will include upgrading the 20-year-old irrigation and drainage systems with more suitable systems, adding goal post sleeves for soccer and rugby, and a brand-new playing surface including hybrid turf on the oval’s high traffic areas (centre circle and goal sq). A new retaining wall will also be constructed at the ovals’ northern wing.
Works will be undertaken during growing season (spring/summer), which also coincides with the conclusion of the AFLW season and the VFL off season.
Once complete, Frankston City hopes to attract a broader diversity of elite sporting and other events to the area, while ensuring the ground remains in top condition for existing users including the Frankston Football Club, AFLW games and community football
Council maintains 65 ovals across the City and on average, we complete a reconstruction like this once a year.
Construction impacts
- Work hours: 7am-5pm weekdays
- The whole park will be closed following the final AFLW game on Saturday 19 October, with works starting on Monday 21 October and is expected to be re-opened in April 2024 in time for the start of the VFL season.
- Access to the social club and function centre will be retained for events.
- Locals should expect heavy vehicles accessing the park via High Street. Most of this activity will be limited to the first three weeks of the project when soil is removed and then in early December, when the new sand layer under the turf is constructed.
- Mitigation measures will be in place to minimise impacts on the community and much as possible, however residents should expect some dust and noise due to the nature of the works.
- Impacts on parking and other traffic conditions around the stadium should be minimal. For your safety, please follow all detour and other signage.
- Dog owners who use open space around the oval are advised to seek alternative nearby dog exercise areas: Free roam, on leash and prohibited areas for pets - Frankston City Council
- Frankston Football Club will complete pre-season training at Belvedere Park, Seaford, which will also host the 2025 Frankston Gift.
