Seaford Wetlands - Habitat and ecological improvements

As part of the Seaford Wetlands Rejuvenation Project, an environmental consultant was engaged to develop a whole site management plan that encompasses all stakeholder areas to ensure consistent management across the Ramsar listed site.

Part of this management plan was to identify which Ecological Vegetation Classes would have existed on site before European settlement and where they would have grown.
This information has allowed Council to work towards restoring approximately 1.5 hectares of damp sands herb-rich woodland and plains grassy woodland by planting over 30,000 tube stock over 24 months.

The species planted include small shrubs and ground covers under the semi-mature canopy that has been planted by the Friends of Edithvale Seaford Wetland Inc (FESWI) who have worked tirelessly over the decades to make Seaford Wetlands is a wonderful habitat for local fauna, and a beautiful place for residents and visitors alike.

These plantings will replace much needed habitat and food sources for local wildlife such as birds, reptiles and amphibians that call the wetlands home.
