Frankston City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from the community for membership to the Foreshore Advisory Committee.
The volunteer committee advises Council on strategic planning decisions guiding the management of Frankston City’s marine and coastal environment.
This is a unique opportunity to become actively involved in management of a highly significant area of coastal and Kananook Creek reserves and implementation of Frankston’s Coastal and Marine Management Plan 2024.
What is the Committee's purpose?
Frankston foreshore is renowned as the most pristine and accessible stretch of foreshore on Port Phillip. The purpose of the Committee is to involve diverse representatives of our community in the implementation of the Coastal and Marine Management Plan and the development of other projects along the coast and around the Kananook Creek estuary. The Committee is an opportunity for these representatives to communicate their aspirations and concerns for the foreshore and Kananook Creek.
Members of the Committee will not have decision-making powers but will have the opportunity through the Committee process to present their views and opinions for consideration.
Who can nominate to join the Committee?
The Advisory Committee comprises of the following members for a tenure of 3 years:
- Two (2) Councillors to be appointed by Frankston City Council;
- Ten (10) to twelve (12) community representatives to be appointed by Frankston City Council;
- Primary Officer: Coastal Policy and Planning Officer (ex officio);
- Secondary Officer: Coordinator Engineering Strategy (ex officio)
- Invited representatives from, but not limited to:
- Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation
- Department Energy, Environment and Climate Action
- Parks Victoria,
- Melbourne Water
Please note, that community representatives are selected on their individual merits and not as representatives of Community groups.
Specific experience or skills in one or more of the following areas would be highly regarded:
- Knowledge of foreshore and Kananook Creek estuary user’s needs;
- Knowledge of coastal and estuarine ecosystems and habitats
- Marine, coastal and catchment environment
- Sustainable land use
- Coastal processes and hazard risk
- Climate change adaptation
- Emergency response
- Tourism and marketing;
- Recreation and leisure
- Business management;
- Asset management;
- Stewardship and collaborative management
- Cultural values and heritage sites
