Montague Park weed control and revegetation project
The Montague Park weed control and revegetation project in Frankston will significantly improve the management of invasive weed species as well as encourage a healthy, diverse flora and fauna environment, while providing improved amenity for residents, and parks users.
To minimise impacts on the maternal child health centre and scout hall, initial vegetation works (stage one and two) will occur during the school holidays – from 21 December 2022 to 31 January 2023. Stage 3 will be undertaken later in 2023.
What is Council doing?
Frankston City Council will be undertake a range of activities, with a focus on controlling invasive, climbing weeds species and retaining the original flora palette at the Eastern of the Park:
- Removing invasive weed species (bagged and removed from site)
- General weed control using various techniques (hand removal, application of herbicides, mulching and weed suppressing matting
- Planting indigenous trees and shrub species (Autumn 2023)
- Remedial tree works (any mulch created will remain on site)
- All trees will be retained unless found to cause potential risks to park users, these trees will be assessed by Councils Arborist to determine the appropriate action.
How will the community benefit from this work?
The works will improve:
- Indigenous species development
- Capacity for Councils parks staff to manage weed outbreaks effectively
- Local amenity by improving access throughout the park
They will also:
- Support a healthier diverse flora and fauna environment
- Provide opportunities for activities such as community planting days
- Meet Council’s Urban Forestry commitments via additional tree and shrub plantings
Project timing
Initial ground works will occur between 21 December 2022 and 31 January 2023, with ongoing maintenance after this date.
Disruption during works
Every effort is made to reduce disruptions to residents and park users impacted by our works, as well as to provide advanced notice of any changes which may impact residents directly. However, residents and park users should expect some noise and delays due to the nature of the works.
Works are expected to be undertaken between 7am and 6pm weekdays, and traffic management will be in place to safely direct park users and pedestrians as required.
While properties will always be accessible during the works, there may be some delays or scenarios where this may not be the case. If you have any special access requirements, please contact us.
We thank you for your understanding.
