HeatSafe Frankston
We invite you to join us at our 'Heatsafe Frankston' event in the Community Room at Frankston Library on the 27th of February to talk about all things heat resilience!
We have watched record-breaking temperatures, bushfires, heatwaves and unprecedented storms and flooding in Australia during our 2023-2024 so far. And it isn't going to change without drastic emissions reduction led by our State and Federal governments.
In many countries around the world and across Australia - towns and cities are talking and taking action to make sure that they can continue living their day to day lives as it gets hotter, dryer and more unpredictable. The solutions are big and small, but each is tailoring a solution that suits them.
This event brings together community speakers and advocates to share what it means to them dealing with the stress and impacts of sustained hot weather in Frankston City Council and surrounds. This event is all about hearing from community members and asking the question: what is needed to ensure we can continue to enjoy our lifestyle and build a "heat-safe" community?
Now is the time for us to identify and advocate for their needs. Our past and present community have done so much to provide the amazing facilities and biodiversity of our beautiful city. What do heatwaves do to it now day-to-day and to future living and thriving?
We are excited to kick start this conversation. Think about what you do in your life each day. Come along and listen to Sweltering Cities and Councillor Claire Harvey. There will be time to share lived stories and priorities that will be collected for action.
Time: Doors open at 6:15pm for a 6.30pm start. Panel and Q&A concludes at 8:00pm with light refreshments and mingling until 8.30pm.
This event is being led by Alison Cooke, Frankston local and supported by Sweltering Cities and CoPower.
