National Tree Planting Day 2023

National Tree Planting Day 31 July

Back in 1996, Planet Ark started National Tree Day and it has grown into Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event. It's a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to the community. In 2023, Schools Tree Day is Friday 28th July, National Tree Day is Sunday 30th July and Tropical Tree Day is Sunday 3rd December.

North Reserve is 15 hectares of former quarry land. This is a unique planting site as it is currently under rehabilitation not accessible to the public. This year's National Tree Day site aims to establish pioneer plantings at the reserve to build and nourish the soil making it more habitable for other species to succeed. The plants selected for planting with be hardy, fast growing and densely planted (including for example coast tea-tree, Kangaroo apple and Boobialla). These plants will aid in building up the leaf litter and encouraging beneficial invertebrates that are essential for healthy soil. They will then make way for a second stage of planting with species that are more representative of remnant vegetation community. This site is surrounded by high quality vegetation that provides important habitat to species such as Swamp Skink, Southern Toadlet, Wallabies and Koalas.

Well done to everyone who got their hands dirty planting for Schools Tree Day on Friday the 28th of July.

This year Frankston City supported 35 early childhood centres, primary, secondary schools and Monash University to plant over 2000 indigenous plants.

Living with Wildlife Victoria presented at Kingsley Park Primary School and Woodleigh School – Minimbah Campus our Environmental School Ambassadors in 2023. Congratulations for a job well done planting 300 indigenous plants each!
