Apply for a nature strip planting permit

Council supports beautification of nature strips provided that the underlying purposes of the nature strip can be maintained whilst ensuring the ongoing safety of the general public.  You will need a permit to landscape a nature strip directly outside of your property. There is no fee associated with this permit. This may include:

  • Planting
  • Mulching

Your proposed design will need to demonstrate that it is accordance with Councils Nature Strip Guidelines and does not interfere with access or public safety. Please refer to the checklist provided within the guidelines. Some items are not permitted on nature strips including rocks, artificial turf, edgings, letter boxes, water features.

We encourage residents to choose low growing indigenous plants that are local to your area. View our Indigenous Plant Guide for more information.

Permits can only be issued to the owner of the property. We prefer you submit your application online.

The permit holder must maintain the area to an acceptable standard determined by Council at all times.

Council has the right to reject any application if it considers the application inappropriate to the area.

Council may issue a permit with conditions that outline certain requirements, including the need to reinstate the nature strip at any time, at the cost of the permit holder.

If you're unable to apply online, you can apply via email, mail or in person.
