Frankston Youth Council is a youth advocacy and action group of 12-24 year old young people who are connected to the Frankston area. The group meets fortnightly to discuss, plan and action appropriate business between the months of March to December. Youth Council provides a platform for young people to have a voice and represent other young people within the Frankston community. Youth Council is a platform to explore their own personal government and community objectives.
Youth Council is inclusive and open to all young people in the Frankston area. We encourage young people from a low socio-economic background, LGBTQIA+ identifying, young people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse to apply.
What does it involve?
- Plan, organise and facilitate a youth project and event, based on Youth Councils chosen vision for Frankston 2022
- Providing feedback for new and existing Council initiatives through a consultative process on issues that may affect young people in the community
- Volunteer at events and within the community
- Participate in training and workshops for personal development and future possibilities
Key Selection Criteria
Selection for the Frankston Youth Council will take into account the following criteria:
- An ability to display competency during the interview and intake process
- A 90% commitment rate to meetings
- The ability to contribute to meetings and complete assigned actions
- Demonstrate a positive connection with local community members and stakeholders
Please note that all successful applicants must provide a completed indemnity form and vaccination certificate in accordance of COVID-19 Government Guidelines to be accepted into the Frankston Youth Council.

FReeZA Frankston is an innovative youth development program that provides opportunities for young people to enjoy live ALL AGES events that are affordable, accessible, drug, alcohol and smoke-free in supervised and safe venues.
Funding from Frankston City Council and FReeZA grants provided by the Victorian Government give young people the opportunity to become part of a FReeZA committee. The Frankston based FReeZA program is called ‘Fresh Entertainment’.
For over 15 years, the Fresh Entertainment team has planned, organised and run all sorts of live events such as Open Mic Nights, Push Start Battle of Bands, markets, variety shows, movie nights, Skim and Skate competitons, as well as a dedicated Emerging Artist stage at Frankston’s Waterfront Festival. All programs and projects are facilitated and supported by Youth Workers.

Frankston Youth Recording Studio
The Fresh Recording Studio is located at Ebdale Community Hub and exists as a safe and relaxed space for young people to express themselves creatively and learn skills in audio production.
The studio program offers partnerships between emerging young musicians and volunteer Audio Engineer mentors. Some of these tracks are featured on Fresh’s annual compilation album and performed live at the album launch event. Visit our Bandcamp for previous compilation albums:

Compilation Album
As part of this annual project, 5 young artists record original tracks at the Fresh Entertainment Recording Studio with a volunteer audio engineer mentor.
Artists participating in the Compilation Album project have the opportunity to take part in ‘Making it in the Music Industry’ group training facilitated by The Push. Artists are also invited to perform their tracks at the album launch event.

Volunteer as a Sound Engineer
FReeZA Frankston are grateful for the Volunteer Audio Engineers who make studio projects possible for young people in our community. Volunteer hours are flexible and volunteers have access to studio facilities. Volunteer audio engineers and music producers are trained, resourced and supported by FReeZA facilitators so that they can develop their own initiatives and projects at the recording studio with young local musicians and performers. Volunteers must be 18+ years old and are subject to an application and interview process.

Open Mic Nights
Fresh Entertainment host an All Ages Open Mic Night, where local performers can showcase their talents including musicians, poets, comedians and more. This is a family-friendly event. Our Youth Stewards are youth volunteers, between the ages of 17-21, who have an interest in and want to learn more about the services and programs provided by Frankston Youth Service. Youth Stewards are given the opportunity to gain experience with Frankston Youth Service through the role of supporting and providing assistance to our youth workers during the organisation and facilitation of events.
Other tasks Youth Stewards undertake include:
- Welcoming young people and other visitors to the centre
- Assisting in School Holiday Programs, where required
- General administration tasks
- Ensuring the quality of Youth Service equipment
- Assisting in marketing
The young person must reside in the Frankston municipality in order to be considered for the role.

Frankston Youth Services Youth Advisory Group (NexGen) brings young people together to share their experiences and co-design solutions to programs and events for young people in the Frankston Area.
Our NexGen members will provide Frankston Youth Services with invaluable insight to help us improve services for all local Young People.
The Youth Advisory Group gives young people a platform to share their views and have their voices heard! In addition, it provides a forum that allows young people to develop their confidence, social connections, and leadership skills.
Aims & Objectives:
- Recognise, showcase, and celebrate young people's contribution to our community.
- Promote the talents, achievements, and accomplishments of young people.
- Provide a safe, accessible, and inclusive space for young people to participate.
- Support young people's participation in the planning of programs and events.
- Assist young people to express their ideas and provide them with opportunities and a platform to have their voices heard within their local community.
- Improving services for young people.
- Ensure young people have their say and that their voices and contributions are heard.
- Empower young people through purposeful engagement, providing young people with opportunities to take on meaningful and valued roles within their community.
